Still Waiting

Hi Everyone - no word on when the Neuro consult will be scheduled. According to our call with Dr. Pingpank on Monday evening, Jeff may be re-scheduled for next week or the week after. Watch here for updates :)

Change of Plans

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the late update. Late Friday afternoon we got word that Jeff's procedure was pushed back to Wednesday (instead of today). Since today was his birthday, we were all a little relieved. The kids and I decided to celebrate by taking him out for dinner and they made all the plans/reservations. What a nice treat - they are so grown up! I think we were all relieved that the PHP wasn't being done today.

I know I should have posted earlier - I was in class all day Saturday and spent Sunday doing laundry, grocery shopping, paying bills, etc. to get our lives in order for the weeks ahead.

Anyway, we just got back home and recieved a call from Dr. Pingpank, the head of the PHP research protocol. They want Jeff to see a Neurosurgeon before having the procedures so it looks like we'll be postponed again.

Dr. Pingpank reassured us that all is well but they want to make sure there will not be any problems from the blood thinners they give during the procedure. I'm not sure if I wrote about this in the blog before, but at some point last year they detected what looks like an old "bleed" on Jeff's brain, perhaps from an old injury that neither of us remembers. Jeff hasn't had any problems from it now or in the past but they want to be cautious. FYI - the "bleed" was there before the last procedure and we went through a similiar process...so it is just a matter of protocol....and safety.

Our next steps are to work with the Protocol Nurse to schedule and meet with the Neurosurgeon and once that is done Jeff will go back on the PHP schedue. Dr. Pingpank was not sure if that would be next week or the week after so I will keep you posted.

Stay Tuned!

Round 3

Hi Everyone!

It's been a long time since I've posted to the blog....but it's been quiet in So. Maryland!

As most of you know, Jeff has been doing extremely well...no blood sugar problems...no chemo since last spring and no more surgery since last summer. He has been healing, working, traveling (some) and getting life back to something more normal than the first half of last year.

In April we took a FABULOUS vacation to Arizona - Jeff showed us the desert and all the homes and schools he grew up in. There was swimming, horseback riding, and an ATV desert tour ... not to mention shopping......and lots of sleeping in. We had a blast!

Brit and Brad have gotten their driver's licence, taken part time jobs so that they have a little spending money and started their senior year of high school a few weeks ago. Jeff is still working at General Dynamics IT (formerly Anteon) and keeping busy with Doug, Jim, Gina, Chris, Tim....and the rest of the gang. I'm still busy at Civista and the construction project is coming to a close soon (yea!).

For those of you who don't know, Jeff is scheduled for his 3rd round of chemotherapy on Monday...his birthday (YUK!). Outside of a slightly elevated insulin level and some pain on his right side, there have been no other symptons. The great doctors at NIH want to get the chemo done early before things get out of control like they were early last year. We are not sure if it will be two procedures or four so we'll take it one day (or week) at time.

As always, I'll post to the blog daily while Jeff is in the hospital and at least weekly while he is recooperating. Please be sure to add your comments - I read them all to Jeff when he doesn't feel like being social ...it does a wonderful job of lifting his spirits.

Stay tuned!

Linda
